about
New Zealand based, Taylor Roche returns for his new era with his first installment of 2022 ‘similar feeling’. This release, donned as a fusion of 80s/90s Pop and R&B, further explores the realm of Taylors nostalgic and authentic sound. This song ties on heavy inspiration from 80s/90s artists; INXS and R. Kelly, blended with his love of the sounds from artists like Troye Sivan, Blanks, Joji and The Weeknd. It’s a song that encapsulates the motions of moving on from someone, discovering a ‘similar feeling’ in someone else, but inwardly projecting you haven't truly moved on - you’re just filling a void with a new person who feels close to what you used to love.
‘similar feeling’ is the result of a collaborative co-writing session with New Zealand producer/songwriter Joel Jones. The two spent a day at his studio expanding on the lyrical idea of finding that familiar feeling in someone else, while flipping the second half of the song into acknowledging that they too have found someone, a lot similar to you. It’s a journey that dwells on the idea that we sometimes never truly move on, we just search for the comfort of a similar feeling in someone else.
lyrics
California, hiits a little different
When you’re not around my neck
Lost in shadows, staring at pictures
‘Cause that’s all you left me with
I found a similar feeling in someone else
She wears the same kind of colours and lives out west,
Gives me a sense of fulfillment, but it’s not the same
I found a similar feeling
I’m lost, you never found me
You’re now out of my bloodstream
You had me in a bad dream
All along
Our street felt like a highway,
Then you left and all that changed
I found a similar feeling
In someone else.
California, it’s a little different
Are you lying on his chest
Hard to swallow, he’s kinda good looking
Does it make you feel the same?
In a Cali kind of way?
You found a similar feeling in someone else
He owns the same kind of sweatshirts I used to wear
Gives you a sense of fulfillment, but it’s not the same
I found a similar feeling
I’m lost, you never found me
You’re now out of my bloodstream
You had me in a bad dream
All along
Our street felt like a highway,
Then you left and all that changed
I found a similar feeling
In someone else (Someone else)
I found a similar feeling
